Micro-Tonglen is a game for pairs where you connect with another person’s state of mind. With added thumbs.
Number of Players:
How to Play:
You lock hands as if you were about to play the game ‘thumb war’.
While doing the thumb war intro gestures, chant “four, three, one, two, this is what I’m showing you” and then make a gesture with your thumb that in some way represents your mind state.
So maybe it’s upright if you’re feeling calm, or low if your feeling low. Maybe your thumb is shaking because you feel restless or it’s sweeping from side to side in doubt. You both do this at the same time. And do be creative!
As you play, if you think it helps, verbalise the mind state you are experiencing by saying a single word such as calm, restlessness, doubt..
If your feelings change, let the movement change. If your thumbs touch (and they surely will), let them touch, and note if your feelings change as a result.
As you play, take the opportunity, if it arises, to breathe in the feelings of your playing partner, and breathe out kindness.
Let your thumbs dance a little!
Note: this game has yet to be extensively play-tested and as such may need refinement so do please send us your experience & suggestions so we can make them better.
