Blocus is a game about maintaining your focus on the breath.
This game is based on mindfulness of breathing – one of the most basic meditation techniques. The basic instruction is to pay attention to your breath as closely as possible and when distracted, just come back.
Number of Players:
What Else You Need:
At least 5 dice each and a stopwatch or eggtimer
How To Play:
The handicap system means that any two players can have a contest, no matter what their levels of experience. The group leader should allocate a number of 2 – 5 to each member of the group: 2 for the least experienced, 5 for the most. If there’s no leader, just agree these numbers among yourselves.
Pair up and face one another. Take five dice each. Set the stopwatch for five minutes.
Your goal is to keep your focus on the breath for the number of breaths (so, 2 to 5 breaths). Every time you succeed in keeping your focus on the breath, take one die. (be honest with yourself!)
When the time is up, you both roll all the dice you have but remember to take off your handicap.
The highest score wins and goes through to the next round.
Keep playing rounds until you have this week’s champion.
Note: this game has yet to be extensively play-tested and as such may need refinement so do please send us your experience & suggestions so we can make them better.
